10 Ways To Keep To Your Fitness Plan

September is often like a mini January. Many people have had the summer off, been away on holiday or just found their mojo again and set new goals. Whatever the reason, this 10 point guide will give you handy hints to keep your fitness plan in the fast lane.

1. Do It For You

Don’t get fit to please a partner, impress your GP or feel more attractive – do it for the physical and mental benefits, the endorphin rush and the sense of achievement from getting healthier.

2. That Said, Don’t Do It On Your Own

It’s all too easy to lose interest if you are bored, or make excuses when it’s only yourself you’re letting down. Try to find a buddy to team up with for regular sessions.

3. Safety In Numbers

Some find it less intimidating to join a friendly gym or dance class and hide at the back till they gain their confidence. Most instuctors will understand your fears and make you feel welcome.

4. Do Something You Love

Your exercise environment should be fun and not feel like a punishment. Think about what exercise you need and ask around for taster sessions. Combine it with family fitness like cycle rides, tennis or rounders. They’re all fun ways to keep fit.

5. Mix It, Baby

Don’t stick with the same routine, you’ll soon get bored. Either change your classes regularly, or speak to a trainer at the gym to ensure your routine is reviewed every few weeks.

6. Set An Achievable Goal

Don’t imagine yourself running a marathon or losing six stone at the start of a new fitness campaign. Instead, set mini goals, like attending a couple of classes a week, drinking more water or swimming an extra two lengths of the pool on every visit.

7. Track Your Achievements

Use an app or fitness tracker, or simply pencil and paper, and note your progress. Take your vital statistics at the start of your journey, but also record things like how far you can walk/run before getting out of breath – it’s useful to review every month and see chart the improvement.

8. Measure Every Moment

Don’t wait till you reach the end of your journey to celebrate success. Mark each milestone, such as inches lost or muscles gained, and enjoy how far you’ve come.

9. Don’t Beat Yourself Up About Failure

Wagons don’t have sides – that’s why so many of us fall off them! So, if your fitness or eating plan slips a little, don’t dwell on it. Start the new day afresh.

10. Be Proud Of What You’re Doing

You’ve made the decision to get fitter – that’s a great start. Always look at how far along the journey you’ve come, not how far you’ve got left to go.
