How To Stick To Your New Year Fitness Resolutions

It happens year after year.  Big chain health clubs have their New Year offers on to attract everyone to choose them.

After some consideration, the deal is done and gyms are packed with new faces until… about now.

So why does this happen and what can you do to stay motivated?

It all comes down to the type of coaching you have available to you.

Being just another face in the mass of members during January is like being Wally from the where’s Wally books.  It’s easy to go unnoticed.  Would you be missed if you didn’t show up today?  Probably not.

If you didn’t join a gym and decided home workouts were going to be more beneficial to you.  How many times have you found an excuse not to do it?  The kids are in the way, a friend popped over, I’ll just catch up on my emails…. These are all barriers you put up to ease your conscience for cancelling on yourself.

What is really stopping you doing what you set out to, only 3 weeks ago?

Something called ACCOUNTABILITY

If you not being held accountable for the things you said you were going to do, who would know if you didn’t do them?  Would anyone ask?  Who would guide you in the right direction or keep you motivated?

Think about how much information you can get freely on the web.  It’s right there for you, all you need to do is type in the question you have and boom, google has provided you with a selection of answers.  The next step is a little research on your behalf to match it to your exact needs.

But that isn’t enough.

The solution is simple and lies within you.

  1. Being accountable for the actions you didn’t take along side the one you did take.
  2. Invest in yourself ~ If this means hiring a PT or an expert, so be it.
  3. Surround yourself with people of similar goals and belief systems
  4. Make a plan.

All of a sudden the goals you set out are being reached and you become thirsty for more.  People are noticing the difference in you and are curious to how you’re doing it.


It’s amazing what you can achieve once you make a plan and implement small changes each day.  Relying on will power alone to see you through the year is virtually impossible so take a moment to be honest with yourself and try something new if necessary.
