Hello school holidays! I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I love the 6 week break and having Charlie around more. Like lots of you our annual holiday is approaching and time to take a much needed break. But is fitness still on the agenda? Yeah for me it certainly is as it’s part of my lifestyle. In fact I really enjoy the different options available to me whilst abroad. Do you find this or are you beaten by the heat, sunbeds and tempting cocktail lists?
Over on my pinterest board I have pinned some new workouts for you to try at home, in the garden or even in the hotel gym! Better still if you have children get them involved too, they absolutely love running around and playing games, fitness doesn’t need to be any different. Most of the warm ups i use at the studio are games from the playground like bulldog, dodgeball, wacky races and duck, duck goose!!
I’ve included one below, the only kit you’ll need is a resistance band. (Light enough for your suitcase if you’re travelling!) You can head on over to my pinterest board here if you want more ideas.
Why Everyone Should Eat Coconut
It’s been pushed under our noses for a few years now, but is coconut as good as health marketers are suggesting? I tend to go by science and fact before I make my mind up, and I think it certainly should be included in everyones diet and here’s why.
Heart diseases: There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for heart health. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. In reality, it is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in actively preventing various heart problems like high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.

It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and endocrine (hormone) system. Further, it increases the body’s metabolic rate by removing stress on the pancreas, thereby burning more energy. (Notice people living in tropical coastal areas, who use coconut oil every day as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.)
Digestion: When used as cooking oil it helps to improve the digestive system preventing various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. It also helps in the absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
Immunity: Coconut helps strengthen the immune system because it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties.
It’s also good for your skin and hair so next time you want to give your hair a conditioning treatment try heating some oil and leaving it on your hair for 30 mins… Shiny and natural.
