Weekend Survival Guide

When it comes to weekends away, summer festivals and bank holidays, how can you maintain a healthy lifestyle and not feel the guilt of letting your hair down a bit?

It all comes down to credits and debits.  If you follow a healthy, balanced lifestyle 80% of the time, you’re going to be rewarded of those behaviours positively.  Your mind and body will function well, reducing the impact of any blow outs you may have.

The remaining 20% is yours to play with however you like!  The beauty of this is not feeling restricted in any way and enjoying the things you like.  I’m a firm believer in ‘happiness is therapy’, so if that entails spending a weekend away with your girlfriends and having more wine than avocados, then so be it!

As long as the debits don’t outweigh the credits, you’ll be back into your routine in no time.

Having recently had a weekend in Mallorca followed by one in Marbella, I have put together the Ultimate Survival Guide to help you plan ahead and prepare so you can have the best time ever.

  1. Keep hydrated – Might sound like stating the obvious but keeping yourself hydrated is key to staying out the danger zone, especially if you’re drinking alcohol.
  2. Slap on the SPF – It’s worth purchasing a high factor suncream if you’re laying in the sun at any point.  This comes in very useful if you have spent the previous night partying and are at risk of falling asleep whilst sunbathing… factor 50 works good for me!
  3. Shoes – Without a doubt go for comfort.  The amount of times I have spent ungainly hobbling along the street is ridiculous.  Flip flops all the way!
  4. Andrews – The medicinal type not the opposite sex!  Perfect for those mornings when you’re struggling to parent yourself.
  5. Ear plugs – Turns out they come in very handy when you want to sleep and other people… don’t!
  6. Snacks – In the form of nuts, seeds and dried corn.
  7. Dry shampoo – The best invention ever made.  Perfect for pretending your hair is cleaner than what it actually is.
  8. Pack your active wear – (even if you don’t use it) You’ll be able to say you did!
  9. Breakfast – as always this remains the most important meal of the day, whether you’re on holiday or not!
  10. Laughter – make sure you gets lots of it daily.  There is nothing more therapeutic then laughing and having fun!
